We took part in the earthworm watch. It taught us how to identify immature and Adult worms – if they have a saddle or not :- the three types of worms – deep living earthworms, surface feeding earthworms, soil feeding earthworms ; soil texture ; identifying calcium carbonate and soil colour.

It was a rather wet and windy day and we dug our 20cm squares one in the field and one in the vegetable patch. Surprisingly the field had 26 worms and the vegetable patch had 8. After finding and counting our worms in the square we cut out, we poured in mustard water into the hole. Afterwards we poured vinegar onto the soil to see if it fizzed to see if had limestone in it.

It was great fun, you should enroll and give it a go.
